Bernadette L. Peters was born Bernadette. Lazzara in Ozone Park Queens New York on February 28, 1948, is a songwriter/singer and an author of children's books. In an extensive career spanning over five decades, she's appeared in musical theatre film and TV shows as well as performing as a solo artist and recording. She has received seven Tony Awards nominations, two that she took home along with the other eight Drama Desk Awards. Grammy Awards went to four Broadway Cast Albums in which she was a part of. Peters began her career in the theatre as a child and then an actor of her teens in the 1960s as well as in films and TV in the 1970s. The public praised her for this early work and for roles as a character on The Muppet Show The Carol Burnett Show as well as in various productions on television, as well as for her performances in films such as Silent Movie The Jerk Pennies from Heaven and Annie. In the 1980s her return to the stage was a major factor in her becoming one of Broadway's best known actors for over three years. Her solo albums include six albums and several singles along with album of cast members. She also performs regularly in her solo concert act. Peters also continues to act in films and on television and has been nominated for three Emmy Awards and three Golden Globe Awards winning one time.
